“My work in this exhibition consists mainly of abstracted landscape paintings. They arise from the act of sketching on-site, whilst walking through the elemental coastal landscape of West Cornwall. They are concerned with describing my experience and memory of what it feels like to be in this place of wildness and beauty.

Processes are important to me and I often use layering, mixed media, scraping, and splattering, as a means of communicating my feelings about the energy and space of the landscape.

I’d like to think that my paintings give delight and lift the spirits. You’ll have to be the judge of that one.”

An internationally renowned luthier for the past 30 years, Jonny Kinkead successfully combines his two passions – fine art and guitar making.

His design training expanded his keen eye for the form, colour, and light of the landscape. Painting on-site enables him to connect with the elements of nature.

During the past 20 years, he has earned increasing success as an artist, having had several successful exhibitions in the South West.

His guitar business based in Bristol, ‘Kinkade Guitars’ attracts the UK and international customers. His guitars rank highly amongst the most prestigious acoustic handcrafted instruments in the business.

He has written a book published internationally in 2004: Build Your Own Acoustic Guitar’ which has received excellent reviews.
