Amanda Roberts studied Fine Art at Loughborough University, and moved to the South West over 20 years ago. Her more recent paintings are vibrant and bold abstracts which capture the essence of a place, thought, or memory. These abstracts are painted predominantly in oils on large canvases She uses symbolism which is thought-provoking and intriguing, creating a multi-layered textured effect. Inspiration for these paintings often comes from built-up environments, such as the docks in Bristol, echoing strong tonal contrast between man-made metal structures and softer diffused reflections on the surface of the water. These visual prompts act as a catalyst, enabling the paintings to evolve organically through the process of mark making which ultimately inspires the final composition.
